Antonis Lanaras is the Head of European and International Cooperation Section at ECDC since April 2019. He is a qualified lawyer specialised in international law and with a political science and public administration background.
He has more than 20 years of experience of legal and policy development, management and international co-operation in the health sector and held several positions at national and European level.
He started his professional career in the Greek Ministry of Health and continued in the Public Health Directorate of the European Commission. From 2004 until 2010 he was the Chief Executive of the Children’s Hospital of Athens and in 2011, he was appointed health attaché at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU.
From 2016 and until he joined ECDC he worked in the crisis management and preparedness in health Unit of the European Commission.
